GCBA is an organization committed to rewarding, recognizing and promoting excellence in children’s literature. The Georgia Children’s Book Award was established in 1968 by Sheldon Root, a Professor in the Department of Language Education at the University of Georgia to foster a love of reading, and to introduce children to books of literary excellence. The award program will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2018!

We have an annual conference to honor the Georgia Children’s Book Award winners, which includes author workshops and practitioner-based concurrent sessions.

The results are in! Thanks to the voracious reading of thousands of youth across the state of Georgia as well as the support of hundreds of teachers, media specialists, parents, and other community citizens around the state, we are able to honor the following books as our 2013-2014 Georgia Children’s Book Award winners.
